The story behind this commission is heart-warming... A devoted husband wanted to surprise his wife with a custom-made gift for their 6th wedding anniversary. The year # 6 traditional wedding gift is IRON, so he set out looking for a gift in that medium... Via his Google search for a hand-made iron gift and a link on the Balcones Forge website, I got a call...
We discussed options and perused photos on my website. Once we reached a decision, I got to work producing the piece -- and fast! -- because the anniversary was quickly approaching. The heart paperweight measures 6” tall x 5” wide x 2” deep. It was made from 1/4” round rod using the tack-and-bend technique and my oxy-fuel torch. The chit accompanying the piece is stamped with the husband and wife’s first initials and the number ‘6’, indicating the wedding anniversary they’ll be celebrating. (The back side is stamped with my touchmark.) Congratulations to M & W! I hope she enjoys the gift. -- Perhaps this devoted spouse will be back in touch for years # 8 and 11 where I can make something in BRONZE and STEEL respectively!... --
