Hiding in Plain Sight: Revisiting 'Walking Stick'

Walking Stick blends seamlessly into its environs, as I’d originally envisioned.  It hides in plain sight.  I prefer when my work complements the natural environment vs. overpowering the nature surrounding it.  So imagine my genuine delight when I was literally two feet away from Walking Stick but didn’t see it right away at the base of a rock flow.

I recently visited Walking Stick, a sculpture designed for and installed in the wilderness outside of Buena Vista, Colorado. 

Walking Stick looks as good as the day in 2018 when the dozen of us in my ‘Bandit Sculpture Birthday Gang’ realized my vision for a milestone birthday and installed this piece.

Colorado's dry environment and the clear Permalac sealer have maintained the artwork’s raw steel look.  There’s virtually no rusting, and the numerous pin-and-wedge attachments are keeping the 16-piece sculpture fully intact. 

Revisiting this sculpture is as good a reason as any to be in touch and catch up with the friends who joined me on this bandit art caper where we each carried a piece into the wilderness before reassembling it together.  Cheers to you, dear friends!​
